Focusing on safety
When we experience emotional trauma, it doesn't just affect our mind - our body holds it too.
Unfelt emotions stay in the body and will eventually rise to the surface. What we suppress today can deeply shape our tomorrow. Healing begins when we allow ourselves to feel.
Healing also means offering yourself safe experiences. Instead of apologies and promises, we need consistent, trustworthy actions that help our body feel safe. When the body feels saîe, it's more likely to believe it.
Healing from trauma isn’t a straight line — it’s a gentle, step-by-step process. Even the smallest steps forward matter. What’s important is that you’re moving in the direction of safety, not perfection.
It’s easy to focus on how hard it is to trust others after being hurt — but often, rebuilding trust with ourselves is just as challenging. Creating consistent, safe experiences doesn’t always come from others. Sometimes, it starts with how we show up for ourselves.
Instead of focusing on “healing,” which can make us feel like something is broken, try focusing on safety. When we nurture safety in our environment, our experiences, and our relationships — our body begins to believe it’s safe too.
